Maunawila Heiau

Maunawila Heiau is approximately 9.08 acres located in the Hauula community on the north shore approximately 20 miles north of Honolulu. It is beloved by many residents of the Ko’olauloa District, Hawaiian cultural practitioners, volunteers and members of the Ko’olauloa Hawaiian Civic club, the Hauula Community Association, and others. The Heiau is a recognized wahi pana for Native Hawaiian cultural historians and practitioners and is one of the last remaining places in the area where Hawaii’s rich ancient past can be readily observed. The funding for the purchase of the property and Conservation Easment came from both the Legacy Land Conservation Program administered by the Hawaiian Department of Land and Natural Resources and the Clean Water and Natural Land Fund.
